Your Connection. Your Data.

Privacy is a founding principle of WiFi Ping. This page explains what happens when you run a test, without absolute claims we could not back up.

What is measured

Download and upload throughput, latency, jitter and failed latency probes between your browser and a WiFi Ping test server.

What is needed to run the test

The test server sees your IP address and approximate network location while the test runs, because it has to send data back to you. Your browser type is visible to the server as with any website.

What stays on your device

Your test history, labels and settings are stored in your browser only. There is no account, and clearing your browser data removes them.

What is not collected

WiFi Ping does not run advertising trackers, sell personal data, or ask for an account. It cannot see your Wi-Fi name, passwords or browsing history.

What the test needs

A speed test moves data between your device and a test server. To do that, the server necessarily receives your IP address and can infer an approximate location and network from it. Your browser also sends the usual technical details every website receives, such as browser type. The test server responds to requests and discards the data it receives during upload tests.

What is stored, and where

  • On your device only: your saved test results (including the measurements, the IP address shown in connection details, and any labels you add) and your settings. They live in your browser's local storage. There is no account. Clearing your browser data, or using Settings, deletes them.
  • On our servers: WiFi Ping does not currently store test results, IP addresses or user profiles in a database.
  • Hosting logs: our hosting provider (Vercel) processes requests and may keep standard operational and security logs, which can include IP addresses. We do not control their retention schedule.

Provider and location lookup

If the lookup is on (the default), your browser sends a request to a third-party IP database (ipwho.is, or ipapi.co as a backup) to find your internet provider and approximate location. Those services receive your IP address and are governed by their own policies. Turn this off in Settings and it will not happen; the rest of the test works the same.

What we do not do

  • We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not sell personal data.
  • We cannot see your Wi-Fi name or password, your browsing history, or other devices on your network.
  • Shared result images contain your scores only, never your IP address or location.

Analytics and future data

WiFi Ping does not currently run analytics. If we later add aggregated, anonymised measurements to power provider comparisons and outage detection, that will be opt-in, described here in advance, and will never include your IP address alongside your results.
